Of two AIIMS in J&K, one operational, one under construction: Centre | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 05 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir has two All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) approved under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), with one fully functional and the other still under construction, union ministry informed Lok Sabha on Friday. As per officials, AIIMS Vijaypur in Samba district of Jammu is functional while the AIIMS in south Kashmir’s Awantipora remains under construction. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Union Health Ministry informed that out of 22 approved AIIMS across India, 18 are functional, four institutes including Awantipora region are yet to be completed. “Completion timelines, the Ministry stated, depend on factors such as availability of encumbrance-free land, regulatory clearances, and site-specific issues,” the ministry said. It also said that the government is monitoring the progress of under-construction institutes to ensure timely completion—(KNO)
